BACK-TO-SCHOOL PICNIC

CES PTA NEWSLETTER
The CES PTA publishes a newsletter three- to four-times each year, which covers PTA-sponsored activities, fundraisers, news and events.

COMMUNICATIONS
CES PTA Announcements are distributed weekly via email keeping you up to date on all our news, volunteer needs and upcoming events. Announcement emails are automatically sent to all families providing email addresses for the school directory. If you’re not receiving the weekly announcements contact the PTA Communications Chairperson or the PTA President at CESPTA@msn.com.

CULTURAL ARTS
With your financial support in-school assemblies are provided over the course of the school year giving the students the opportunity to experience and learn through a variety of art forms while teachers meetings are held.

5TH GRADE PROGRAMMING
The PTA sponsors activities celebrating our 5th graders as they complete their last year of elementary education at CES and prepare to move onto middle school.

HOSPITALITY
The CES PTA strives to sponsor activities which will help parents feel more welcome at CES. In previous years this included providing a Volunteer Breakfast early in the school year and organizing a “Muffins for Moms/Donuts for Dads“ event.

PARENT EDUCATION SEMINARS
It is a challenging, changing world we face as parents. The CES PTA strives to offer interesting seminars keeping parents informed and up-to-date on a variety of topics.

REFLECTIONS     (More Info)
CES PTA Reflections is an annual national PTA sponsored arts program allowing children to express themselves through musical composition, photography, visual arts, and literature. If your child would like to participate in this wonderful, annual program look for instructions on how to participate to come home with your student each fall.

SALVATION ARMY ANGELS     (More Info)
The CES PTA sponsors a holiday gift drive during early December to brighten the lives of needy children as well as provide a learning opportunity for our kids. Notices will be sent home requesting families to sign up. Participating families are assigned a child and given gift suggestions along with instructions on when and where to bring the items to be donated.

SCHOOL DIRECTORY
PTA members receive at no cost a printed school directory listing the school staff, PTA officer and Committee Chair contact information, class lists, and school family name and address information. The directory is also made available for a small fee to non-PTA members.

SOCK HOP
Usually held in the late winter, the Sock Hop is one of our most popular evening family events. Come dance, snack, visit with your friends and have a great time!

SPIRIT WEAR
Each fall the CES PTA sponsors a sale of a variety of high quality clothing items with “Clarksville Elementary” printed on them. Once a month (usually the last Friday of the month), a School Spirit Day is held when students and staff members are encouraged to show pride in CES by wearing their Spirit Wear. (Spirit Wear it not run as a fundraiser for the PTA, but primarily as a service to the school and its families.)

STAFF APPRECIATION
Through the generosity of CES PTA members we are able to sponsor activities which let the CES staff know how much we appreciate their efforts on behalf of our children. Activities include: back-to-school lunch in August, monthly decorating of the staff lounge, a Giving Tree listing staff "wish list" items, two meals during Parent-Teacher Conferences, Staff Appreciation Week in May.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT BOOKS
Each spring the CES PTA makes available Summer Vacation® activity books, software and activity kits to help your child succeed the following year in school. (The Summer Enrichment Books are not run as a fundraiser for the PTA, as a service to the school and its families.)

TEACHER SUPPLY ALLOWANCES
CES teachers, staff and aids are provided an allowance to purchase items to use in the school benefiting our children rather than their having to purchase such items out of their own personal funds. Qualified receipts are submitted to the CES PTA treasurer for reimbursement. The need and value of the CES PTA Teacher Allowance program has consistently been proven being the Clarksville Elementary PTA’s largest annual expenditure. Teachers, staff and aids repeatedly express their great appreciation for our generosity in providing the allowances they have received from the CES PTA.

YEARBOOK
The PTA Yearbook Committee puts together a yearbook to celebrate and capture memories of the school year. The book is filled with individual photographs of each CES student and staff member, as well as many, many pages of candid pictures. These candid pages cover most aspects of school life, including learning in all subject areas, PTA activities and special school events.

YOUNG AUTHORS     (Template / More Info)
Every year the CES PTA offers each student the opportunity to "publish" a book. Students write their own creative story, type it into a template, print and turn it in to their classroom teacher. The rest of the publishing process is done for 1st graders by volunteers who cut and paste each story into a bound book. When 2nd through 5th graders complete their stories, they each receive a blank book and cover, along with cut-paste instructions, so they can incorporate their illustrations, graphics and other creative ideas right from the start. Kindergarten students create an All About Me story one page at a time in class, with "publishing" help from classroom volunteers. Parents are invited to a grade-wide Young Authors Tea to celebrate their child's accomplishment. Although parent participation is not a requirement, parents will be missed by the younger children. The Young Authors tradition has given students not only a useful lesson in creative writing and project completion, but also a keepsake of their literary development at CES.

VALENTINES FOR HOSPITALIZED KIDS     (More Info)
The CES PTA sponsors a project in which our kids make valentine cards/notes to send to children at Johns Hopkins Children's Center and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. The kindness of our students has been evident and encouraged through success of this worthwhile annual community service project.
